Question 13265
You should set up a proportion that has the distance on the map (in inches) on the top of each fraction and the distance in real like (in miles) on the bottom of each fraction. It would look like this: {{{(2.25/56.25) = (1/x)}}}. I got 1 on the top of the second fraction because the scale on a map is the number of miles that 1 inch represents. To solve the proportion, cross multiply and divide, so you will do 1 x 56.25 = 56.25; then divide that by 2.25 to get 3. The scale is 1 in = 3 miles.
