Question 1052485
.
The volume V of a given mass of gas varies directly as the temperature T and inversely as the pressure P.
A measuring device is calibrated to give V=410 in^3  when T= 530 degrees and P=22 lb/in^2.
What is the volume on this device when the temperature is 260 degrees and the pressure is 25 lb/in^2.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<pre>
The condition states this relationship between V, T and P in the form
V = {{{k*(T/P)}}},      (1)
where k is the proportionality coefficient.
You also are given that
410 = {{{k(530/22)}}}.   (2)
From (2), find k = {{{(410*22)/530}}} and substitute it into the general formula (1) to find V at new conditions:
V = {{{((410*22)/530)*(260/25)}}}.
Use your calculator.
