Question 1049954

Need help with the following word problem:
Kirk has 12 dollars less than Jim. If Jim spends half of his money, and Kirk spends none, then Kirk will have 2 more dollars than Jim. How much money did they both start with?
Here is my work that I tried:
Let x = Jim
Let x - 12 = Kirk

x/2 = x - 12 + 2
 -2          - 2
x-4/2 = (x-12)2
x - 4 = 2x - 24
x = 2x - 28
-2x = -28
x = 14
<pre>{{{highlight_green(matrix(2,4, Jim, started, with, "$28", Kirk, started, with, "$16"))}}}
