Question 1049616
looking at this equation 6/2(1+2) many quote the rule of order PEMDAS to solve it for an answer of 9. I wonder if they are misinterpreting what the P means.
So the question is, does it mean solve only what is in the parenthesis, or does it really mean solve the parenthetical equation?
----
The "P" in PEMDAS means "evaluate the parenthesis"

My TI-84 gives an answer of 9.
-----
6/2(1+2)
P gives 6/2(3)
Applying M and D from left to right gives
= 3*3 = 9
