Question 1048801
 Two acacia trees are found on opposite side of a river.
 Paulo walks from tree A, 10m far away to point C and using an instrument, he finds that this point tree B is at angle 48 degrees from tree A.
 What is the width of the river?
:
This can be drawn out like a right triangle. The 90 degree is at A
Use the tangent of 48 degrees
Side adjacent, AC = 10 m
Side opposite = width of the river (w)
:
Tan(48} = {{{w/10}}}
w = 10*1.11
w = 11.1 meters is the width of the river
