Question 1047987
Let {{{ d }}} = the distance in feet that
Romeo has to run until they meet
{{{ 270 - d }}} = the distance in feet that
Juliet has to run until they meet
Let {{{ t }}} = time in seconds until they meet
-----------------------------------------
Romeo's equation:
(1) {{{ d = 16t }}}
Juliet's equation:
(2) {{{ 270 - d = 14t }}}
-------------------------
Substitute (1) into (2)
(2) {{{ 270 - 16t = 14t }}}
(2) {{{ 30t = 270 }}}
(2) {{{ t = 9 }}}
--------------------------
They will meet in 9 sec
------------------------
(1) {{{ d = 16t }}}
(1) {{{ d = 16*9 }}}
(1) {{{ d = 144 }}}
-------------------
I don't get this 2nd part. It says
" How far will Romeo have to run then?"
Does that mean AFTER they meet?
He runs 144 ft UNTIL they meet
Then he runs {{{ 270 - 144 = 126 }}} ft
to get to where Juliet started.
It's kind of strange wording
