Question 91091
The diameter (in inches) of a a 80 foot long wire has that a resistance of 24 ohms is defined by the function 24= 80/d^2 (to the power of two that is). What is its diameter?
=======================
24= 80/d^2
Multiply both sides by d^2; divide both sides by 24
d^2 = 80/24
Take the square root of both sides to get:
d = 4sqrt(5)/2sqrt(6)
d = 2sqrt(5)/sqrt6
Multiply numerator and denominator by sqrt6 to get:
d = 2sqrt30/6
d = sqrt30/3
d = (1/3) sqrt30
