Question 90360
A three piece suit costs exactly $100. No more no less. It has a vest, pants and a coat. The pants cost twice as much as the vest. The coat costs twice as much as the pants. How much does each piece cost.
-----------
Let the cost of the vest be x dollars
Then cost of pants is 2x dollars.
And cost of coat is 2*2x = 4x dollars
------------------
EQUATION:
x+2x+4x = 100
7x = 100
x = $14.29 (cost of vest)
2x = $28.57 (cost of pants)
4x = $57.14 (cost of coat)
