Question 13051
The sum of the ages of two sisters is 25. The second sister age is 5 more then 3 times the first sisters age. find the two ages

Let x be the age of the first sister. Then the 2nd sister is 5 "more than", which means +, "3 times", which means 3x the first sister.
So we have our equation:
x+(5+3x)=25
Now we solve this;
Subtract 5 from both sides; and add the like terms;

x+5+3x-5=25-5
4x=20
Now divide 4 from both sides:
{{{4x/4=20/4}}}
x=5

Hope you get it
=)
