Question 1040072
 A man travelled from one city to another city by foot.
 he covered 25km by foot in 3.75 hours.
 he walked and ran at a speed of 4km per hour and 12km/h
 calculate the time and distance for which he walked and ran
:
let r = time spent running
the total time is 3.75 hrs, therefore
(3.75-r) = the time spent walking
:
write a dist equation, dist = speed * time
walk dist + ran dist = 25 km
4(3.75-r) + 12r = 25
15 - 4r + 12r = 25
12r - 4r = 25 - 15
8r = 10
r = 10/8
r = 1.25 hrs running (1 hr 15 min)
then
3.75 - 1.25 = 2.5 hrs walking (2 hrs 30 min)
:
:
Find the actual dist walking and running
1.25 * 12 = 15 km running
2.50 * 4 = 10 km walking
----------------
total dist: 25 km
