Question 1037285
A plane leaves Chicago headed for Los Angeles at 550 mph. One hour later, a second plane leaves Los Angeles headed for Chicago at 630 mph. If the air route from Chicago to Los Angeles is 1800 miles, how long will it take (after the first plane takes off) for the first plane to pass the second plane? (Round your answer to two decimal places.)
------------
The 1st is 550 miles away when the 2nd takes off.
The 2nd gains on the 1st at 80 mi/hr (630 - 550)
----
550/80 = 6.88 hours
+ the 1st hour --> 7.88 hours
=================
In that time, the 1st plane would fly 3781 miles, past LA.
Kind of a trick question.
The 2nd plane catches up at LAX in 1800/630 hours = 2.86 + 1 = 3.86 hours.
IDK if it passes the 1st plane.
