Question 1004736
aki bought 4 and 2/5 pounds of spinach for $8.36
we want to find out how much 3/10ths of a pound costs.
since this is a fraction problem i will keep them in fractions not decimals
to turn 4 pounds into its respective fraction you should know that {{{5/5=1}}}
so {{{(5/5)+(5/5)+(5/5)+(5/5)=(20/5)}}}
{{{(20/5)=4}}}
{{{(20/5)+(2/5)=(22/5)}}}
so {{{(22/5)}}}= 4 and 2/5ths a pound of spinach of 8.36
but we need tenths not 5ths
to get tenths from a 5th u need to multiply by a 1 that will change the look of the fraction but not the actual number as you know 1 times anything is itself.
so 5 times 2 = 10, and the 1 we will use is {{{2/2}}}
{{{(22/5)(2/2)=44/10}}}
{{{44/10=8.36}}} easiest way to find out how much 3 /10 is ,is to find out how much 1/10 is and then multiply it by 3.
to find 1/10 you will need to multiply each side of the = sign by {{1/44}} this is the same as dividing by 44 only its easier to see visually in multiplication.
{{{(44/10)(1/44)=8.36(1/44)}}}
the 44s cancel out leaving
{{{1/10=8.36/44}}}
{{{1/10=0.19}}}
now multiply 19 cents by 3
