Question 88371

The length of a rectangle is 2 cm more than twice its width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 52 cm, find the dimensions of the rectangle

  Let the width of the rectangle be = 2x
      the length of the rectangle = 2x+2 cms
      the perimeter of the rectangle p = 52 cms
                                      p = 2(length+width)
                                      52 = 2(2x+2+2x)
                                      52/2 = 4x+2
                                      26-2 = 4x
                                       24 = 4x
                                        x = 24/4 = 6
         therefore length of the rectangle = 2.6+2 = 12+2 = 14 cms
                    width of the rectangle = 2.6  = 12 cms
