Question 12585
Let x = number of half dollars
2x = number of quarters
2(2x) = 4x = number of dimes
3(4x) = 12x = number of nickels

Total value, multiply number of coins times the value of each coin in cents, and the total value of the coins is $10 or 1000 cents. (Doesn't it make "cents" to do it this way??)

50(x) + 25(2x)  + 10(4x) + 5(12x) = 1000
50x + 50x + 40x + 60x = 1000
200x = 1000
x= 5 Half dollars
2x = 10 Quarters
4x = 20 Dimes
12x = 60 Nickels

Check: Does it add up to $10.00??? You tell me!!
