-y = 9 - 3x
y = 3x - 9
Substitute into Eq.(2)
3y + 11  = 5x
3(3x - 9) + 11 = 5x
9x - 27 + 11 = 5x
collect like terms
9x - 5x = 27 - 11
4x = 16
x = 4
Substitute x = 4 into (1)
3x - y = 9
3(4) - y = 9
12 - y = 9
-y = 9 - 12
-y = -3
y = 3

(1) 3x - y = 9
    3(4) - 3 = 9
     12 - 3 = 9
          9 = 9
(2) 3y + 11 = 5x
    3(3) + 11 = 5(4)
      9 + 11 = 20
         20 = 20
