You need more information, like the variability, the type of distribution, and the percentage at which a person failed.
The median is where half are above and half below.  The average can be the median, but it can be far from it, too.  
It is possible to construct a distribution where 33 got a 0%,  76 got a 79% and you got a 58.  That would have an average of 56% and 77 passed.
There are many, many other such distributions.
