Question 1014837
.
For a standard position angle determined by the point (x,y) what are the values of the trigonometric functions?
For the point (16,12) find sin theta and cos theta.
Thank you!

<pre>
Make a sketch.
Draw the coordinate axes on a page: x-axis and y-axis.

It is yours coordinate plane.

Mark the point (16,12) in the plane. On the page, I mean.
It has x-coordinate 16 and y-coordinate 12.

Connect this point with the origin of the coordinate system.
The distance to the point from the origin is {{{sqrt(16^2 + 12^2)}}} = {{{sqrt(256 + 144)}}} = {{{sqrt(400)}}} = 20.

Now, {{{cos(theta)}}} = {{{16/20}}} = {{{4/5}}},

and  {{{sin(theta)}}} = {{{12/20}}} = {{{3/5}}}.

where {{{theta}}} is what angle? - The standard position angle determined by the point (16,12).
