Question 1014200
The length of a rectangular sign is
2 meters less than 3 times its width.
Make the width = x
Length = 3x - 2
Area = length x width
40 = (3x - 2)x
40 = 3x^2 - 2x
3x^2 - 2x - 40 = 0
(3x + 10)(x - 4) = 0
3x + 10 = 0
3x = -10
x = -10/3 (discount as -ve)
x - 4 = 0
x = 4
Width = 4 m
Length = 10 m
Hope this helps :-)
