Question 1001094

Hello i am a 5th grader in need of help. Here is the problem Please explain and show your work easy and well thank you for your time!

 Mrs. Atkins pays 1800 for a new refrigerator, washer, and dryer. The refrigerator costs 250 more than the washer. The dryer costs half as much as the washer. How much does does the washer cost?
<pre>Let price of washer be W
Then price of refrigerator = W + 250 (Refrigerator costs $250 more than the washer)
Also, cost of the dryer is: {{{(1/2) * W}}}, or {{{.5W}}} (Dryer costs {{{1/2}}} , or .5 of the price of the washer)
Since all cost a total of $1,800, then we get:
{{{W + W + 250 + .5W = 1800}}}
{{{W + W + .5W + 250 = 1800}}}
{{{2.5W = 1800 - 250}}}
{{{2.5W = 1550}}}
W, or cost of washer = {{{1550/2.5}}}, or {{{highlight_green("$"620)}}}
