Question 12142
Let x = length
35 cm = width

Ratios are really easy, and as long as you are consistent, you can hardly miss them. Set up a ratio of one variable to another, always using the same variable for the numerator and the same one for the denominator:

{{{(Length)/(Width) = 8/5= x/35}}}

Remember, {{{a/b=c/d}}} means that {{{ad=bc}}}

In the same way:
{{{8/5 = x/35}}} means that {{{8*35 = 5*x}}}

Divide both sides by 5:
{{{(8*35)/5 = (5*x)/5}}}
{{{8*7 = 56 = x}}}
