Question 986277
Driving East along the I-10, McKay saw a sign that read: Lonestar, Texas 128 miles, Boring, Texas 202 miles.
 Then, a second sign showed the distance to Boring was twice the distance to Lonestar.
 Later a third sign showed that the distance to Boring was three times the distance to Lonestar.
 How many miles apart were the second and third signs?
:
Find the distance from Boring to Lonestar:
202 - 128 = 74 mi
:
The first sign where Boring is Twice the dist to L.S, would be
Lonestar 74 mi and Boring 148 mi (74 mi between them)
:
The 2nd sign where Boring is three times the dist from L.S:
let x = dist from L.S.
------------------------------------------------------
Good question, a screw up on my part is the answer. Will try to correct here
3x = x + 74
3x - x = 74
2x = 74
x = 37 mi to L.S. and 74+37 = 111 mi to Boring
Find the distance between the two signs using the distance from L.S.
74 - 37 = 37 mi between the signs
:
I don't know what happened, I guess I just like 72 better than 74
