Question 985165
Where does a root of a form like that of a quadratic equation come from? You should expect the other root to be {{{-1-sqrt(2)}}}. The equation might be reformed going backwards from either root.

x being a root once the root is solved,
{{{x=-1+sqrt(2)}}}
{{{x+1=sqrt(2)}}}
{{{(x+1)^2=(sqrt(2))^2}}}
{{{x^2+2x+1=2}}}
{{{x^2+2x+1-2=0}}}
{{{x^2+2x-1=0}}}------general form quadratic equation
