Question 84037
solve -4/(y-3) + 1 = -10/(y^2-y-12)

Get a common denominator on the left side:

(-4+y-3)/(y-3) = -10/(y^2-y-12)

(y-7)/(y-3) = -10/(y^2-y-12)

Cross multiply to get:

(y-7)(y^2-y-12) = -10(y-3)

y^3-8y^2-5y+84 = -10y+30

y^3-8y^2+5y+54=0

I used a TI graphing calculator to find:

y=-2.08
