the "poly" prefix means multiple or many (like polygon) ... it refers to the number of "terms" in an expression


like you said, A is TRInomial; B and C are both BInomials; and D is a MOnomial (I guess mononomial is too alliterative)


D is the only one that isn't "poly"


terms are summed (some may be negative) to make up a polynomial, so the terms are separated by plus or minus signs


2x-y+3z is a TRInomial ... 3y-2x+y is really a BInomial because the two y terms can be combined into 2y-2x
