Carla has $2.40 in nickels and dimes.

Let Carla have x nickels and y dimes
5x+10y=240..............(1)

Deron has x dimes
Deron has y quarters
10x+25y=550...........(2)

Multiply (1) by 2 and subtract (2)

10x+20y=480
10x+25y=550

-5y= -70
y=14

plug  y to get x
