Question 979810
4+/- 2 times radical 10, all divided by 4.
<pre>
{{{(4 +- 2sqrt(10))/4}}}

You can either do as you did and make two fractions:

{{{4/4 +- 2sqrt(10)/4}}}

The simplify as

{{{1 +- sqrt(10/2)}}}

Or else you can factor 2 out of the numerator:

{{{(2(2 +- sqrt(10)))/4}}}

Then divide numerator and denominator by 2

{{{(2 +- sqrt(10))/2}}}

They are both correct and equal.

It's very similar to the question of whether we
prefer {{{3/2}}} to {{{1&1/2}}}. Your teacher could not
mark either one wrong.
