Question 978333
ALL THE WORK BELOW IS WRONG. I MISREAD THE EQUATION AND SOLVED THE WRONG EQUATION:

In proper notation, the equation is {{{4.2abs(0.5-x)+1=3.1}}}.

Isolate the absolute value;
Apply the possible conditions;
Solve for each condition.

{{{abs(0.5-x)=(3.1-1)/4.2}}}
{{{abs(0.5-x)=0.5}}}

CONDITION, 0.5-x is positive or zero.
{{{0.5-x=0.5}}}
{{{x=0}}}

CONDITION, 0.5-x is negative.
{{{-(0.5-x)=0.5}}}
{{{-0.5+x=0.5}}}
{{{x=0.5+0.5}}}
{{{x=1}}}

SOLUTION:  x=0  or  x=1.

As said at top, all the work toward a solution is wrong because I misread the rightside member of the equation.
