Question 975775
Let {{{ d }}} = the distance in km that Jamie drove
{{{ 440 - d }}} = the distance in km that Amy drove
Let {{{ t }}} = the time in hours that Jamie drove
{{{ 2.25 - t }}} = the time in hours that Amy drove
---------------------------------------------
Jamie's equation:
(1) {{{ d = 90t }}}
Amy's equation:
(2) {{{ 440 - d = 80*( 2.25 - t ) }}}
------------------------------
Substitute (1) into (2)
(2) {{{ 440 - 90t = 80*( 2.25 - t ) }}}
(2) {{{ 440 - 90t = 180 - 80t }}}
(2) {{{ 10t = 440 - 180 }}}
(2) {{{ 10t = 260 }}}
(2) {{{ t = 26 }}} hrs
This is more than the total time of 2.25 hrs
The average speed for the whole trip would
be {{{ 440/2.25 = 195.55 }}}
This is way more than their speeds, so I
think you may wave copied a number wrong.
By all means get another opinion on this.
