Question 83205
Apply the formulas for motion due to gravitational attraction.
#1 A diver in Acapulco leaps horizontally from a point 112 feet above the sea.
(a) How long does it take for the diver to reach the water?
(b) At what speed does the diver enter the water?
--------------
Formula:
s(t) = -16t^2+112
s is height above the ground; when he hits the water s = zero.
-------------
a)
-16t^2=-112
t^2 = 7
t = (sqrt7) sec for him to hit the water.
-----------
b)
velocity = -32t ] -21sqrt7 ft/sec or approximately 84.66 ft. sec.
