Work backwards.


She had $10 at the end, right after she spent $5.  So before she spent the $5, she had $15 which was half of what she had before she bought the necklace.  Hence, before she bought the necklace she had $30.  So before lunch she had $40.  Which is half of what she started with, or $80.
