Change the equation to a slope-intercept form:
8x-11y=5

Just solve the equation for y and end up with the form:

          y = mx + b

   8x - 11y = 5

       -11y = -8x + 5

divide through every term by -11

    {{{((-11)/(-11))y}}} = {{{((-8)/(-11))x}}} + {{{5/(-11)}}}

          y = {{{8/11}}}x - {{{5/11}}}

Now compare that to

          y = mx + b

and you see that the slope m = {{{8/11}}}

and the y-intercept is the point (0,b) or, (0,{{{-5/11}}})
