Question 81589
QUESTION:

Solve the following equation

22-3(y-2)=y+8

ANSWER:

22 - 3 ( y - 2 ) = y + 8

First of all remove the parenthesis as follows......

22 - 3* y -3 *-2 = y + 8

22 -3y + 6 = y + 8

22 + 6 - 3y = y + 8

28 - 3y = y + 8

Subtract 28 from both sides

==> 28 - 3y -28 = y + 8 - 28

==> -3y = y - 20

Again subtract y from both sides....

==> -3y - y = y - 20 -y

==> -4y = -20

Now divide both sides by -4

==> -4y/-4 = -20/-4

==> y = 5

So the solution is y = 5

Hope you found the explanation useful.....
