Question 951795
A swimming pool is the shape of a rectangle with two semicircles attached to each end.
The length of the rectangle is 12 ft and the width of the rectangle is 10 ft.
The owner is planning to put a deck that will extend our 6 feet all the way around the pool.
Determine the number of square feet of deck material needed to build this deck.
:
Draw this out labeling the dimensions, will be apparent what the radii and rectangle dimensions
:
Find the total area which includes the pool and the 6' deck all around the pool
The radius of two half circles + rectangular area =
{{{pi*11^2}}} + (22 * 12) = 644.14 sq/ft
Find the area of the pool only
{{{pi*5^2}}} + (10*12) = 198.54 sq/ft
:
overall area - pool area = deck area
644.14 - 198.54 = 445.6 sq/ft is the deck area
:
There will be significant waste because of the curved shape, at least 500 sq/ft of material is recommended
