Question 80804
If there is a goat tied to a rectangular barn on a 50 foot lead and the barn is 20 feet by 20 feet (floor), what is the maximum grazing area? If there are regions you can't find the area of, provide as good an estimate as you can.
---------
Draw the picture; Draw a circle with a 50' radius with its center at the
post. Draw the corner of the barn that cuts off 1/4 of the area of the circle.
Now do the math:
Area of the circle = (pi)50^2 sq ft. = 2500(pi) sq ft
Only (3/4)(2500(pi)) is available for grazing.
That area is 1875(pi) sq ft = 5890.49 sq ft
