Question 942939

solve by the method of substitution

4x+2y=10
x-y=13
<pre><font face = "Tohoma" size = 4 color = "indigo"><b>4x + 2y = 10_____2(2x + y) = 2(5)_____2x + y = 5 ------ eq (i)
x - y = 13______x = 13 + y ------- eq (ii)
2(13 + y) + y = 5 ------ Substituting 13 + y for x in eq (i)
26 + 2y + y = 5
2y + y = 5 - 26
3y = - 21
{{{y = (- 21)/3}}}, or {{{highlight_green(y = - 7)}}}

x = 13 - 7 ------- Substituting - 7 for y in eq (ii)
{{{highlight_green(x = 6)}}}
You can do the check!!
