Question 938275
Simple uniform rates, travel problem.
RT=D rate time distance.

{{{R=(2144*miles)/(8*hours)}}}
{{{D=560*miles}}}
{{{T=unknownHOURS}}}

SOLVE FOR T.

You can try to use simple ratio if you want.

The travel rate is the same for the entire trip.
That means D for distance, T for time, the ration {{{D/T}}} is a constant.

{{{560/T=2144/8}}}
and if two "fractions" are equal then their reciprocals are also equal.
{{{T/560=8/2144}}}
Note that the left and right sides still must be equal.
You can undo the division by 560 on the left by MULTIPLYING both sides of the equation by 560:

{{{(T/560)*560=(8/2144)*560}}}

{{{(T*560)/560=(8*560)/2144}}}

{{{T=(8*560)/2144}}}
Now just simplify the right side and compute as needed.
