Question 79241

[First of all, the triple braces (three of these { before
and three of these } after) can be placed around the entire
equations, including the sqrt's] :

can you please check this for me? i am solving
equation for x

{{{2(x-5)^2=3}}}
{{{(x-5)^2=3/2}}}

The next step should have ± before
the square root, because there are
TWO square roots of positive numbers,
not just one. You also should have a
2 on the bottom of the last fraction,
not a 3

{{{ x-5}}} = ±{{{sqrt(3/2)}}} = ±{{{sqrt(6)/2}}}

You also went wrong in the next step:
You got:  {{{x=5*sqrt(6)/3)}}}

That's wrong, other than just the wrong
denominator 3 instead of 2. You ADD 5 to
both sides. You don't MULTIPLY.
That step should be:

{{{x = 5 +- sqrt(6)/2}}}
