Question 933640
At a furniture manufacturer, worker A can assemble a shelving unit in 5 hours. Worker B can assemble the same shelving unit in 3 hours. Which equation can be used to find t, the time it takes for worker A and worker B to assemble a shelving unit together?
Let t= time it takes for worker A and worker B to assemble a shelving unit together?
Sooo Worker A and Worker B works at the rate of 1/t shelving unit per hour

Worker A works at the rate of 1/5 shelving unit per hour
Worker B works at the rate of 1/3 shelving unit per hour
So our equation to solve is:
1/5 + 1/3 = 1/t  multiply each term by 15t
3t+5t=15
8t=15
t=1.875 hours---time it takes for worker A and worker B to assemble a shelving unit together?
CK
(1/5)(15/8)+(1/3)(15/8)=1 (1 shelving unit that is)
3/8 + 5/8=1
1=1

Hope this helps---ptaylor
