Let's say you had the chairs labeled A through J (10 letters)


There are 10 students to pick from to seat at chair A.
Then there are 9 students to choose from for seat B (once you seat the person at chair A, they can't be at chair B at the same time).
and then there are 8 students for chair C.
etc etc


Multiply out the choices: 10*9*8*7*6*5*4*3*2*1 = 3,628,800
