Question 921767
Question Number 1, not all of the values are given.

The problem description seems to be this:
The hillcrest garden club wants to double the area of its rectangular rose beD. Strips of the same width will be added to one end and one side to form a rectangle. If the bed was 17.5m by 12.2m, what are the dimensions of the new bed?

Let w be the uniform width of the stripping to be added to the garden.
Notice that you were NOT given the values for the new area nor the width of the stripping.

Dimensions of the new "bed"?
17.5+w and 12.2+w.
That's all.

Actually no change was done to the garden bed; only change to the border around the garden bed. The bed is NOT new, so still the same 17.5m by 12.2m.
