Question 921359

I really need your help in solving this problem. I appreciate your time and efforts. Have a terrific evening :) Here is the question?

Comparing travel. A plane can fly 300 miles in the same time as it takes a car to go 120 miles. If the car travels 90 mph slower than the plane, find the speed of the plane?
<pre>
Let speed of plane be S
Then speed of car = S – 90
{{{300/S = 120/(S - 90)}}} ----- Both cover respective distances in the same amount of time
300(S – 90) = 120(S) ------ Cross-multiplying
300S – 27,000 = 120S
300S – 120S = 27,000
180S = 27,000
S, or speed of plane = {{{27000/180}}}, or {{{highlight_green(highlight_green(150))}}} mph
