When finding the Domain, there are really only two things to look for:


1.  Is there a DENOMINANTOR?  If so, then the restriction is that whatever the denominator is, it cannot equal zero.


2.  Is there a SQUARE ROOT (or 4th root, or 6th root, etc.)?  If so, then the restriction is that whatever is in the radical (called the radicand!) must be grreater than or equal to zero.


In your problem:  {{{y = 7/(5-x) }}}.  In this case the restriction has to do with the DENOMINATOR!  The denominator 5-x must NOT equal to zero.  This means that x must NOT equal 5.  


The domain is the set of all permissible values of x, the values of x that ARE allowed.  In this case, it would be all values of x EXCEPT 5.
