Question 77123
You want to get rid of the -2x on the right side, so
just do something to both sides that cancels out the -2x
on the right side. That happens to be adding 2x to both sides
You can think of it as subtracting a -2x from both sides, so
I'll do it that way
{{{x^2 - 3x - 4 = -2x + 2}}}
{{{x^2 - 3x -(-2x) - 4 = -2x -(-2x) + 2}}}
{{{x^2 - 3x + 2x - 4 = -2x + 2x + 2}}}
{{{x^2 - x - 4 = 2}}}
now subtract 2 from both sides
{{{x^2 - x - 4 - 2 = 2 - 2}}}
{{{x^2 - x - 6 = 0}}}
and this equals
{{{(x-3)(x+2)}}}
so x can be +3 or -2 answer
check answer
{{{x^2 - x - 6 = 0}}}
{{{3^2 - 3 - 6 = 0}}}
{{{9 - 9 = 0}}} OK
-------------------
{{{x^2 - x - 6 = 0}}}
{{{(-2)^2 -(-2) - 6 = 0}}}
{{{4 + 2 -6 = 0}}}
{{{6 - 6 = 0}}} OK
