Question 76824
<pre><font size = 4><b>Please help me. I am not doing so good with this one.
Find the slope and y-intercept.
3x + 8y = 72

Rule:

Solve the equation for y, so that you have the form

                      y = mx + b

Then m, the coefficient of x is the slope, and b, the other
number is the y-coordinate of the y-intercept. The x coordinate
of the y-intercept is 0, so the y-intercept is the point (0,b)

                {{{3x + 8y = 72}}}
                     {{{8y = -3x + 72}}}
                 {{{(8y)/8 = (-3x)/8 + 72/8}}}
                      {{{y = (-3/8)x + 9}}}

Compare that with     {{{y = mx+b}}}

and you see that the slope m = {{{-3/8}}} and the y-coordinate of
the y-intercept,b, is 9, and so the y-intercept is the point (0,9).
