Question 76615
tell me if i did this problem correct
square root of 2x + 5 + 8 = 17
= square root of 2x + 13 = 17
= 2x + 13 -13 = 17 - 13 = 4
=2x = 4
__ __
2 2
x = 2

SOME OF THE THINGS YOU DID WERE CORRECT AND AT LEAST YOU GAVE IT A SHOT. FIRST OF ALL, IS THIS THE PROBLEM????

{{{(sqrt(2x))+5+8=17}}}

If this is the problem, then you should have gotten (and you got most of it)
{{{sqrt(2x)+13=17}}}

{{{sqrt(2x)+13-13=17-13}}}

{{{sqrt(2x)=4}}} square both sides to get rid of the radical

{{{2x=16}}} divide both sides by 2

{{{x=8}}}

CK

{{{sqrt(16)+13=17}}}
{{{4+13=17}}}
{{{17=17}}}

Hope this helps----ptaylor
