Question 885365
A section on the playground is in the shape of a triangle and has an area of 24 square feet. If the base is four more than twice the height, what is the measure of the height?
Solution
as per given conditions base is four more than twice the height,
base =2 x height +4 let base is b and height is h
Area of triangle = 1/2(base x height)

24 =1/2(2h+4)h  by cross multiplication
48=(2h+4)h
48 =2h^2+4h take 2 common
24 =h^2+2h
h^2+2h-24=0 by factorization spiting middle term
h^2+6h-4h-24=0
(h+6)(h-4)=0
h=-6 or h=4  neglecting negative 6 value
so height =4 feet
base = 12 feet
