Hi,
Let x, y and z  represent Elmira's, Geoff's and Rae's ages respectively
 x + y + z = 82
 Elmira doubles her own age, it will equal Doug's age.
Elmira adds six to Geoffs age, it will equal Doug's age.
 2x = y + 6   0r  x = y/2 + 3
subtracts 8 from Rae's age, it will equal Doug's age.
y + 6 = z - 8
   z = y+14
(y/2 + 3) + y + ( y+14) = 82
     {{{(5/2)y = 65}}}
            y = {{{(2/5)65}}} = 26, Geoff'a age.   Doug is 32
CHECKING our answer***
 16 + 26 + 40 = 82
