Question 70422
Subtract. Write your answer in simplest form:
{{{(y-2)/(y+3)-y/(2y+6)}}}
:
In order to add or subtract fractions they have to have the same denominators (bottoms), whatever you do to the denominator to get that, you have to do to the numerator (top). To find the lowest common denominator (LCD), factor your denominators.
{{{(y-2)/(y+3)-y/(2(y+3))}}}  The LCD is 2(y+3)
{{{2(y-2)/(2(y+3))-y/(2(y+3))}}}
{{{(2(y-2)-(y))/(2(y+3))}}}
{{{(2y-4-y)/(2(y+3))}}}
{{{highlight((y-4)/(2(y+3)))}}}
