Question 827419
 Flying to Kampala with a tailwind a plane averaged 158km/h.
 On the return trip the plane only averaged 112km/h while flying back into the same wind.
Find the speed of the wind and the plane in still air.
:
Let s = plane speed in still air
let w = the wind speed
then write an equation for each way, use elimination here
s + w = 158
s - w = 112
------------ adding eliminates w find s
2s = 270
s = 270/2
s = 135 km/hr speed in still air
Find w
135 + w = 158
w = 158 - 135
w = 23 km/hr the wind speed
:
Not that hard, right?
