Question 821960
When air is pumped into a tire, the pressure required varies inversely as the volume of air. If the pressure is 30 lb/in2 when the volume is 140 in3, find the pressure when the volume is 100 in3.
-----
PV = nRT
PV = k (a constant)
30*140 = k = 4200
---
P*100 = 4200
P = 42 psi
=================
Pumping air into a tire doesn't work like that, btw.
It's another instance of the author of the problem not knowing what he's talking about.
